3 Steps To Choosing Winning Keywords

by Jennifer Provencio

Choosing the appropriate keywords for your article is very important. Most people write articles to generate traffic to their sites. If you are not choosing the right keywords for your article, then you will not generate traffic and will be writing blindly.

For any given keyword, Google will rank each site. If you are not one of the first 10 sites, your site will not be noticed by targeted readers. The following data came from Market Samurai. The first site will receive 42% of the clicks, the number 2 site will receive 12% of the clicks, site number 3 will receive 8 %, and site number 4 will receive 6%. So you can see the importance of ranking first or second. If you don't, you will not get the results you desire.

The first step to keyword research is to find keywords that are relevant. You want to get really targeted traffic to your site. In order to do this, you should identify the phrases most relevant to the content on your blog. Come up with a lot of words that are relevant to the article you want to write. If its not relevant to your site, its probably not a good article for your blog.

You should also consider finding high traffic keywords in your keyword research. According to statistics, over 90% of all keywords have insignificant levels of traffic. Many article writers target keywords randomly without much thought given to them. As a result they see little or no traffic.

The third thing to look at is actually the number one reason that people fail on-line is because of their competition. When doing your article research, you need to take a good look at the competition. Since you want to rank on the first page of Google, you need to be better than your competition. So, first figure out how many are competiting for a specific keyword or phrase. Some keywords have a high level of competition.

Sites that are on the first page of Google are usually sites that are well established. They have been around for 10+ years and have hundreds of pages of good content. So when you are doing your keyword research, go for the second position. This will mean more traffic to your site.

In summary, when doing keyword research, you should evaluate the relevancy on your keywords, use high-traffic, second place keywords, and look at your competition.
